Oh - and BTW - all of your videos are of M6s. I wonder if the aerodynamic is different, and Cx of an M6 is lower than that of an M5. It probably is, because the car is lower and therefore has a smaller frontal area.
Weights M5 1830kg and M6 1785
These details are from www.bmw.fi
So total drag of M6 is smaller as is case with weight and that's why it's faster. Even so the actual frontal area might be (AFAIK is) smaller on M6 than numbers show. M5 is more "boxy" than M6.
(Cx is actually "Coefficient x" and Cw "wind coefficient" this C has to be multiplied by frontal area of moving object, if speed is same, and that is the force what is known as a wind drag)

ok but wouldnt gearing play a big role too? I mean if its physically impossible to hit 330-340 km/h why the needle still going if the car is not accelerating? I mean There is 3-4 videos of people reaching 330 in m6 and m5. I think it is possible and gearing of SMGIII helps ALOT in achieving that speeds.

330km/h on the speedo is not 330km/h in practice... its around 318-320km/h in practice... Go read so more

Wait guys wait a bit!
Like a million times before, the same thing happened to this thread also:
WHY on earth somebody starts to talk about speedometer speed achived by some cars and then the other replys with REAL actual speed?!?!?!?!?!
I mean ok, everybody knows the real speed is smth that no oem speedometer can read that accurate. Of course the speed won't be exactly real at 330, nor it will be at 250,200,150,100 and so on. WE were talking here about speedometer speed, why bring up real speed?!
For example: let's say a guy in an m5 says he rached 330km/h and a guy in an E55 says he reached 300km/h on the speedo. Is there a problem here? I guess not. Since we assume the offset of the speedometer in the m5 is pretty much the same as in the E55 or any other car right?! Only if the guy in the E55 says it reached 300km/h real speed obtained from various proffesional tools ONLY then the M5 guy has to shut up. I dunno if i made it clear enough. Might be a stupid example.
BUT speedo speed and real speed is different. The post clearly was about weather the m5 or m6 is capable of reaching 330-340 on the speedo or hud. So what's that go tto do with real speed?! Yeah the real speed is actually a lower number but what does it matter. Few people will ever compare themselfes by using REAL data.
PS: From what i see on the international bmw.com webpage the m5 has a cw of 0.31 and the m6 has a cw of 0.32

BTW - there is no indication anywhere that when MGuy posted initially he was talking about speedo or real, though he is clearly aware that they are not the same. Or have I missed/misread something?
BUT - even sticking to indicated speed, as the scale ends at 330 in an M5 instrument, how on earth do you know if it's indicating 332, 341 or 359? Only thing you know is that it has reached top of the scale! :'(

Well, it kind of matters when you are trying to assess things objectively. And/or when you try to stop.

In the 1st post we see a link with the video from youtube. In that video we see the spedometer of the M5, and also we see MGuy commenting that it looks like 340ish, thus we can assume that he was talking about the speedometer and not real speed since NO clue of real speed appears on this thread except when you guys start mixing things up. No sweat though!
We can only assume the top speed of that M5 in the video but it sure looks it went over 330 (look closer) so considering the fact that we kinda know what top speeds have been reached with derestricted m5s and m6s we can guess it went somewhere between 330 and not less and 340...ON THE SCALE. Maybe HUD would have helped in our case. Obviusly that's not real speed, everybody knows that.

Hahaha i watched the video again and it appears, towards the end, that the speedometer needle gets pulled down by the fuel gauge needle. Maybe it has magnets

To be honest, I can't see the needle moving beyond the end scale in any of the videos. What seems to be visible in some of them is the fuel needle movement...
Oh, and BTW - I don't think it has magnets. It's the turbulence from the speed of movement that drags the other needle down.
