The SMG issue is the SMG pump. Whatever extended warranty you buy make SURE they treat the trans as an auto and not a manual. The updated pumps don't fail so IF it does fail...once it's been updated...you're good to go. What happens when they do fail is they get stuck in a gear and leave you stranded. NOT the end of the world. When mine happened it was 3 days at the dealer and never a worry about it again. Hell, check the records on it...it may have already been updated.
