Hey guys, Im new to this forum. I just purchased a 2008 M5 last week, upgrading from an e46 m3. Car does have 42k miles on it so the warranty will be running out in about 8k. I purchased the 2008 since i heard a lot of bad things about the 06 and 07 and plus i liked the look of the 08 better.
My question is, have any of you 08 owners hit the 50k mile marker and have you had any problems with your M5? Should I purchase the extended warranty? If so, from bmw or aftermarket? I wasnt planing on purchasing any warranty since i drive about 8-10k a year and i'm planing on keeping it for no more than 2 years.
Thanks in advance

Great looking ride you got there! If it was me, I'd get the extended warranty as well. You probably know this, but doesn't hurt to reiterate: extended warranty packages for M5 aren't easy to come by and cost more than their equivalents for non-M E60's - be extra careful when purchasing and remember: just because you're buying something from a dealership, doesn't mean its 100% legit.
Would love to see more pics of the M5 too (especially, after the mods )

Congrats on the beast! That's a lot of miles for a 2008 so it might be hard finding an 08 owner who has ran out of warranty already.
As for the warranty, a BMW warranty doesn't mean it's better than a third party warranty. I heard BMW warranties are more expensive and they do not cover iDrive so double check. And an aftermarket warranty doesn't mean it's bad. If you have a BMW dealer that you bring your car too then I would get whatever warranty they sell because they would have an established relationship with that third party company and can make the claims process easier.

You liked the look of the 08 better? Other then some minor interior changes, what looks did you like better? From an exterior standpoint they are essentially the exact same car no?

Knock on wood but not yet. However on cold starts in the mornings, I would occasionally get the red cog warning light come up for a second or two and it will go away. The dealer has checked this out 3 times now and have found nothing. I just took a video of it the other day and will show it to them again.
