Sounds like oil loss on the M5 lessens after the 1,200 mile service visit?
I've got 850 miles now on my '08 M5. I've had the car for 3 months now so I'm averaging under 300 miles a month. I was surprised to have had the "Fill with 1 quart of oil" notification when I was at 825 miles. I'm hoping the oil consumption lessens as I've seen on the comments thus far.

As for cost of oil, I was disappointed to hear that the BMW Mountain View dealer was charging close to $15 and also said, "Sorry, can't use your BMW club discount to purchase oil." I visited the Pleasanton East Bay BMW dealer ('cause I was on my way to Livermore and just happen to get that "Fill with 1 quart of oil" warning) and they honored my discount and the end cost for each quart was under $9! I think it's important for us to mention where we're getting better prices on this valueable commodity .

I knew that getting an M5 was going to cost me up front, and during the ownership but hey, I always wanted my own "Batmobile".

Cheers,
-Tony

I have 13,00 miles and burn about 1 litre every 1,800 miles. BMW is gracious and "top-off" the oil but it is a pain running by the dealer every 2-K or so.

Nothing since my break-in service at 1200 miles. I have now almost 3000 miles and the oil level has not changed. I also just rest my oil indicator just to make sure it was working. I drive the car farily aggressively (P500 sport) 99% of the time.
I'm now have 4650 miles. After my 1200 mile service the oil indicator was at 0.7L and now it's at 0.3L.

For me, since I just got the car last month, about .5L in 2K miles. I just picked up a case of TWS 10W-60 from McKenna BMW for $120 out the door. Yeah it's $9.25 a liter, but shopping around I couldn't find anything cheaper. And the SA wouldn't top off for free, they'd rather gouge you 'til your pockets are empty. Anyone know any SoCal dealers who give free tops offs or liters of oil, or am I just dreaming here?
