I missed having a stick - I personally would not want a M5 with any other trans. I like the interaction (work?) involved and since I have no desires to take it to the track, I just don't see the point in getting the SMG. I'm thankful that BMW gives us the option - even if it is the previous 6-speed manual - it is a pretty nice one at that. By far my favorite feature compared to my 550 auto.
PS - there is a lot of bad info out about the 6-speed manual (like it being slower in tests). Most if not all of those tests were done prior to the DSC deactivation patch by BMW. I have yet to see an official test on a 6-speed M5 with the traction control turned off.

Yes...the E39 M5 6-sp manual is the same one on the E60 M5....clunky. I hated the one I test drove. Once I got into the SMG, I fell in love.
