My Ride: Late 2005 M5 in Silverstone Metallic II with Full Black Leather Interior. SMG, LOGIC7, Heated Front Seats, Rear Electric Sun Blind, Comms Package, Professional Nav, TV Function, Extended Voice Control, Adaptive Headlights
Have a 6 speed manual version, and how do you find it?
If you do have the 6 speed, what made you buy it over the SMG?
Mine is SMG, but i don't think we have the option of having it as a 6 speed manual here in the UK.

for me, the SMG III was made to measure for the S85 engine .. i believe the 6sp loses out in performance over the SMG right?

530ISPORT - Thought it was a rare one. I too love a 6 speed, but in the M5 you really can't beat the SMG
JayEll - I don't know if the 6 speed is lifted from the E39. If it is, then i agree with you; it's lame from BMW! I would expect the 6 speed does loose performance yes, but i don't know for sure. SMG is awesome

In magazine tests, the 6sp is slower to 60mph than the SMG by almost half a second. Also, I believe they only made 6sp for the US market but I'm not 100% sure. I do know that it was demand from the US market that made BMW add the 6sp tranny.

Doesn't all E60/61 M5 and E63/64 M6 models come with a 7-speed sequential Drivelogic gearbox?
