If I had a m5 I would have M on ALL the time, and would be flooring it at every light. Hahaha, I would waste so much gas.

You wouldn't be "wasting" anything, u gotta pay to play, and for the excitement the V10 brings for mere dollars a day, you'd have to spend $1000 at the strip club everyday!!!

My M button is set to P500S, MDM, Sport EDC, shift speed 5. At that setting the car is an animal, not comfortable for stop and go driving. It's jerky, tight, and hard to keep off the gas.

I only press the M button when I am engaged with another car or I have had a bad day at the office. Otherwise I always roll in P400S, DSC On, Comfort EDC, shift speed 5 and the car is as comfy as a Cadillac - untill I press my favorite button!

To answer the original posters question, why not drive with all 500HP? It's a harsh ride with all the race settings on, but it's nice to know you have them.

I have it on most of the time, but with EDC on normal, it's too harsh on british road. Strangely, it gives better mpg as i don't need to put my foot right down to get the power. Anyone has this experience?

My wife calls MDM, "Major Dumb Mode". I kid you not. She knows when I hit the M button, as the car feels totally different. She'll lean over at times, check the odometer display and ask, "Do you have Major Dumb Mode on?".

Hahahaha!
ahh women dont understand the joy of the MDM button!

I hold the DSC button to turn off all the computer stuff set my mode DS and drift away into turns

You need to spend some time in the car, the only point I agree with is edc on sport is usually unnecessary for public roads...the car is only jerky because of your lack of experience..P500S in S5 is much less jerky than P400 if u learn how to drive smg...it is a pure waste of the S85 to not drive in P500 unless poor weather is the reasoning...u don't buy a race car to drive it like a golf cart, jmho!

Here are my M button settings during the Spring/Summer seasons. The only time I'll turn DSC off and move the car into S6 is if I'm racing:

Power: P500 Sport
EDC: Normal
DSC: MDM
Shifting: S5
Active Seats: Sport

A. I've spent plenty of time in my car and know it pretty well.
B. Before accusing anyone of lack of experience you might want to ask their credentials. Everyone on a forum has an opinion, and I value yours, but insinuating I have lack of experience or that I have to learn to drive SMG is incredibly naive of you.
C. My M5 is jerkier in P500 S5 than it is in P400 S5, regardless of experience, that is my humble opinion. The reason BMW took the time to install 10 butterflys and purposely detuned it to 400 is for comfort & efficiency. Don't take my word for it, though.
D. In case your wondering, I've driven many golf carts like race cars, but never a race car like a golf cart.
E. Don't use jmho if your not being humble, just use jmo.

Anyone can drive their car in P500 all the time, I respect that. Just don't be smug about those who don't and certainly don't accuse them of lack of experience.
