Default How do you like your M5?

I'm thinking of getting one!

Wanted a 550i but a M5 is just a little more..

I'm looking at a 2007 M5 with 80k miles for 29k cash

Do you like your M5? or should I just get a 550i?

Greatest vehicle I have ever owned. Check and re-check the vehicle history thru a dealer's computer.
80k miles could mean lots and lots of green going to fix and replace parts. The 550i, which I also owned is easier to own (20+mpg), cheaper to repair and plenty fast, but it ain't no M5!
Just turned 15k miles on mine. Used sparingly with gusto.

I recommend reading the E60 M5 section of m5board.com.

true, except you have to tolerate the pompous, prudish attitude of that forum. there is plenty to research here and it is far friendlier.
still, do all the research you can anywhere who can find it.

Be very careful purchasing an M5 with that high of mileage. The M5 is extremely expensive to repair. My choice came down to the same as yours. A 08 550i with 40k miles or a 07 m5 with 70k miles. M5 is a lot faster and looks killer but I dont think its worth the headache. Not unless you want to fork out more for one with lower miles.

I just recently picked up a low mileage one, about 20k miles. I would suggest looking into some of the issues that the higher mileage ones have. Theres a great thread on M5 board which talks about some of the problems with it specifically vanos, smg issues ( if you go with smg), and rod bearings. I've had mine for literally 2 weeks and have already had the battery die on me and the ibs sensor replaced.
