I thing the only thing they would upgrade is lighten the car with CF stuff like the M6 or even better make a M5CSL 
but ya I think they will keep the engine the same.
Look at M3 it has never changed in the engine or has it.

E46 M3 no, previously in E30(?) and E36 yes there has been power bumps. Most recent M car to have power increase mid-cycle was the previous M coupe, US version from 240hp --> S54 engine if I recall correctly. Supposedly BMW had tested the V10 to 9000rpm safely prior to release, so who knows what might happen. I doubt it'll be so soon though...

There was talk of an M6CSL, with a bit more power. However, unlikely that they'd put that engine in the M5, I would think, unless they were to drop the regular M6 from the range altogether.
