My Ride: 2005 545i with everything
Default

Given the attractive 0.9% financing that BMW Financial is offering right now I stopped by my local dealer and looked at their inventory. They have a 2008 M5 loaded with a sticker of basically 100k. I've bought several BMWs including my current 2005 545i but never an M. I need advice on how much play there is in that 100k sticker given I am planning on a 3 year lease.

The only way I will do this is with a great interest rate (0.9 on an M5 is maybe a once in a lifetime rate) but I also would need to get a smoking deal off MSRP to justify the upgrade in my mind given that I love my 545i.

What should my offer be? These are lean times for dealers so I'm assuming they are willing to deal.

BMW offered dealers an incentive to take some 08s.... on those cars you can get 10-11K off MSRP. Lease rates are not going to be as hot as they were a couple of months ago - so you will probably have to purchase. The challenge there is that 08s are going through auction at some pretty low $ amounts. So you are going to pay a lot to get the .9%. A catch 22.

Tell me about your drive - what kind drive do you have to work? The M5 is a machine, don't get me wrong - but you have to be aware that it is going to cost a boat load and will be very very different than your 545. I can share more if you like.

Actually after driving the car and putting some thought into it I've decided to stay with my 545i. I found the M5 too much of a compromise. My 545 with sport package has boatloads of performance and is comfortable for daily commuting. Too much of the 11/10ths engineering and performance of the M5 is geared towards track and magazine testing and not enough for the real world in my opinion. Much thanks for the input.

I LOVE the fact that for most of the threads here, the solution to most problems is "GET THE M5"!!!

Look at it another way - Getting the M5 is the cheapest way of getting M5 mirrors, M5 body kit, M5 pedals, M5 entry strips, M5 seats, M5 interior, M5 Steering wheel.....

Did you see this post? You're on the left and this M5 is on the right coast but gives you some idea of what other dealers might be offering.
