If the M5 had a smoother gearbox i would get it hands down. I will try to drive an E63 later this week but i hear from some MB techs who are friends the cars airmatic suspension just cant match he M5 set up.

Id like to hear comments on the E63 comparo and what made you chose between the two. My other option was a 550 Sport but i crave the massive power that the M and AMG deliver.

I know a few guys here are look at AMG for their future cars. Either the E63 or CLS63. I agree the torque is enticing. Can't aftermarket springs, shocks, or coilovers help out with the AMG suspension?

I spoke with Brabus and MKB today in Germany i await for one of their engineers to get back to me on swappping the airmatic

Airmatic anything stinks but the car is 94k, and you should not have to do this, Oh the new E63 rims are nasty they gotta go too

I mean my old 545 sport was just sick with the handling if the E63 worked this good it would be a closed deal.

Did you get to drive both of them side by side?

I haven't gotten around to test driving a AMG model yet. I'll do so when I visit my brother in Delaware. He's a soon-to-be CA at a Mercedes dealership.

You need to drive the E63. When you so, you'll see that there's nothing wrong with the handling, which is about the best yet out of MB - and certainly not to the degree you're suggesting. You'll find tests with different results but here's one test where it beat out the M5 and S6 - with the handling being one of the reported strengths.

I see the new sig! Sorry that is this is going off-topic but I remember you were looking hard at some Porsches at the last Bay Area Meet. As a matter of fact, you mentioned you were going to test drive a few later in the day. Nice! Open a new thread and post some pictures!

You will adapt to the gearbox on the M5 and will be as smooth as silk in a month or two. Don't let the SMG be the reason you don't get the car...

Yes, more or less. If I get a fast sedan the next time around, then it will be the AMG CLS. My problems with the M5, as compared to the comparable MB's are: horrible gas mileage, SMG (or manual), and low torque engine given HP.

SMG tranny is prob one of the best reasons to get the M5 well... of course besides the 507 ponies...

IMO, SMG can't compare to the Merc tranny except on the track--which is not where I go.
