These cars seem to really have a gas problem,i have a 545 which is'nt the most efficient thing on the road but it looks like an M drinks it by comparison!!I went for a 30 minute test drive on the open road, both heavy and light pedal and used over a 1/3 of a tank of gas.I was pretty shocked, and the salesman just said"yep, these babies LOVE petrol".
Errm,i'm kinda thinking for an everyday driver this is gonna get expensive.Forget that 'if you can afford to buy it,you can afford to run it' crap...i'm not into lighting up $100 bills and throwing them out the window, even if it is at at 150mph!!

Well said! - 12mpg (EPA rated) is just obscene and a waste of money. I drive pretty fast and only get 15-16mpg city in my 545i so I would hate to see what a M5 would be in reality.

That said, the M5 is quite sweet.

If its of any help, my M6 does a constant 5.2Km/Li on Singapore roads. The traffic situation here can be quite bad at times and theres plenty of stop/start movt.

Well said. I do also agree with the ' ' statement. In the same way if i think about it, if i'm going to stay with bmw for my next car wich is pretty much the most likely choice, then i promised myself a high revy engine, an M engine but i would have to sign the deal without looking at the consumption. That's if, as i said, bmw doesn't throw up another wicked diesel monster till 2008 or so. 545d anyone? a 4.4 V8 with twin sequential turbos....ummmm that for sure would make me forget the Ms.

Well, my new M5 with only 400 Km on it has done quite well. I am driving it civilized in order to break it in properly. City I'm getting 18.5 L/100 KM and Highway at 110 km/hr I got 12 L/100 KM. Nothing wrong with this at all. I am sure once I break it in it will do better. I know that spirited driving will cause this to drop but for daily commutes I'm confident that I can get not bad milage. My wifes FX35 is not any better on the highway, a bit better in the city though.

My work is 144kms away from where i live. So with an M5 I would have to tank 2X per day (assuming i started with an empty tank ) ?? !!!!!

With my 535d, i tank every 3 days

But i dont have 507hp

though i have loads of tree pulling torque

ok ok,.. i'm still jealous
