Hi,

Does anyone have a document that outlines the procedure for removing the plastic shrouds on the bottom of a 5er? I'm considering replacing the CDV by myself but I am a little intimidated at the prospect of having to remove the shroud just to get to the clutch slave cylinder...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jon.

Go to a good shop, and spend $100 to have them do it. You're just nuts to try to save that amount of money on a $60,000 car when you might screw it up.

Is this what you're looking for?

Step 1:
removing_front_underbody_protection.pdf

Step 2:
removing_rear_underbody_protection.pdf

Step 3:
removing_reinforcement_plate.pdf

Good luck...

Ummm, I'm almost embarassed at how easy this appears... Yes, this is what I am looking for.

I did find a mechanic willing to do this for me, but he hasn't worked on any of the E60 5ers because most people are still taking them to BMW for service under warranty.

Thanks, Jon.

If you do it yourself, or if the mechanic isn't familiar with the car, watch out for the catalytic converter! One mechanic told me he burned the #$%! out of himself the first time he replaced a CDV.

Thanks for the heads-up... sounds like we need to wait until it cools down before trying this...
