Do the M side vents do anything?

My Ride: 2005 E60 BMW 525i - BIRTHDAY- 11/04 - EXTERIOR- Amethyst Gray Metallic. INTERIOR- Beige Dakota Leather w/Dark Poplar Grain Wood. OPTIONS- Automatic Transmission, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, 6-disc CD changer, Bluetooth using Verizon Raza V3c phone, SIRIUS Satellite Radio. ADD-ON's- 545i Chrome Grill, Euro Red Reflectors, Factory all-weater matts & Factory Coat-Hanger.

I think the M side vents look HOTT!!! But do they do anything? Cool the car or anything like that? I see them on ebay, but figure it would look ghetto to add has anyone on this site done it?

I wouldn't do it.
they help cooling the engine. When you open the hood of a 545 you almost burn your fingers. So the Emmy gets real hot...

the ones on ebay are NOT the ones on the new m5, so be careful before trying to buy them

My M coupe had the first M side vents and they were purely cosmetic. I also thought they were cosmetic on E46 M3. Makes me think they will be cosmetic also on new E60 M5. Just for looks....

Ya, they are designed to evacuate smoke from the engine compartment when it blows ;-)
