WOW! Thanks jetmech, you really know your seats. I did get the comfort and they look really nice from your picture. I will be picking my M5 up tomorrow at 3:00.

The comfort seat is MY picture.

And the seat that jetmech showed as being a "standard" sport seats in Roleez' M5 ARE actually multifunction seats also. I just think the headrests have been changed between his and Roleez's.

According to the '08 M5 new car window sticker (which I kept), it states, "Multi-function seats w/ lumbar ... $1900" and right below that it reads, "Active-seat width adjustment ... Included". What I (still) don't know is why my headrests don't have those vertical "fold" lines flanking the M emblem seen in jetmech's post. The overall seat design (appearance, texture, contours) in that pic looks exactly like my seats, sans those vertical lines on the headrests. The 4MA/4MF option includes power-adjustable "upper backrest" (for shoulder support), active "backrest" (lower bolsters actively move based on which way you turn/corner), and active head restraints (pivot the headrests toward the head in the event of a rear-end collision) ... all of which are on my car already.

I'm not an expert on M5 seats but I think the terms "multi-function" and "multi-contour" are being confused.

I think multi-contour seats are the same as "comfort" seats (which have the fold-in headrests) and multi-function seats are the "standard" M5 seats.

I'm sure someone else can clarify or correct things if I'm wrong...

I don't think you are right on this one Rudy. There are standard Sport Seats, Comfort Seats and Multi-Function Seats available in the M5....all called by those exact names by BMW on their website. They don't use Multi-Contour as a description here.

I just think Roleez has the older style headrest compared to that other pic. Both are the "Multi-Function" option. I am just not sure what the "standard" M5 Sport Seats look like. Anyone have a pic? The BMW website probably has pics on the build-your-own section.

Thanks for clarifying -- I really was just sort of guessing...

According to the build-your-own on bmw's web site, there doesn't appear to be a real difference in looks alone between the multi-function and standard sport seats. It appears to be in the functionality issue.

The Comfort seats are shown with the newer style headrests as well. FYI, all.

To add to everyone's confusion....

On the sticker, it is always called MultiFunction - BUT it is a different seat if you get it perforated as that means you also got the ventilated option (at least here in the US).

So there are
Standard seats
MultiFunction without perforated option ($1,900)
MultiFunction WITH perforated/ventilated option ($1,900 + $3,500 + $800) I think - not 100% on the price of the ventilated seats.

But what makes it even worse, is that I've never been able to configure an M5 (on bmw usa website) with ventilated seats - the ventilated option never shows.

What's even more interesting is that we've not heard from Toni since the day before she picked up her M5...

I think the universal E60.net pattern is holding true (well, sort of...maybe there are a few small differences with females?)
