Hi All,
I just bought my m5 not to long ago - I noticed in either D or shift mode, when you come to a light, the tranny downshifts to 2nd then 1st - but it makes a sort of clunk noise from underneath the car. Its not that bad, but you can defenitly hear it downshift into lower gears with a clunk. Is this normal? anyone else have the same? or should I get the car serviced? This only happens when you slowely stop the car, and see it downshit to 2 and then 1st gear.

I am not sure it will work with the M5 SMG tranny but the 25 sec tranny rest procedure works on my SMG. I reset mine every 1000 miles or so and it shifts much smoother specially on down shifts.
Try it out. Turn the key/Start button to "ON" position but DO NOT start the car. Press the accelerator pedal all the down to the floor. Hold it there for 25-30 seconds. Start the car and drive. You should notice a much smoother transition between gears.

The noise you're hearing is the hydraulic pumps moving the gear. the noise is more prominent going from 2nd to 1st since you are slowing down and the RPMs are lower, its nothing to worry about

Thanks all, I kind if figured it was normal since its not that bad. But just figured since it was a used CPO car, I would check into it. Other than that I must say these things are really fun to drive.!!
