you can thank the govenator for raising our dmv reg fees

mine was ~$450+ back in December I think...
He had no choice Gene, the state is tremendously underfunded right now! If we could have curbed spending (back to Gray Davis etc.) we would NOT be in this predicament today! So until it gets sorted out, we have to bite the bullet and pay through the nose! BTW, wait until Aralyn goes to school and see how cash strapped the schools are! Then you'll be amazed at how much the parents are EXPECTED to cover just to keep the schools running!

That was before the fees went up right? I'm curious what it'll be when you get your bill in a month or so.

From California DMV website:

Vehicle License Fee

Most vehicles are also assessed a Vehicle License Fee (VLF). The VLF was established by the Legislature in 1935 in lieu of a property tax on vehicles. The formula for VLF assessment established by the Legislature is based upon the purchase price of the vehicle or the value of the vehicle when acquired. The VLF decreases with each renewal for the first 11 years. The DMV returns almost all vehicle license fee revenue to the cities and counties. For more details on how your VLF money is used, contact your local city or county government officials.

thats why M5's and high end cars VLF's cost more
