i must be severely uninformed , but i though that the design of the V10 engine shared some of the characteristics of the e28 5.0 V12 ... in that when not in full use (as in P400) then 2of the cylinders automatically switch off? in this respect i though that if you cycle between modes, and constantly changed the operation of the engine, then there would be some damage...
as for a fuel remap, i would tend to agree that fuel and ignition timings are not altered... Although perhaps W8MPC could talk to Rob of DMS and find out... ? he has a very good understanding of how the engine works
perhaps i better post a thread on m5board?

I can guarantee you that there is no shut off of cylinders for the p400 mode. All cylinders are firing, and the throttle bodies only open to 90% of full opening in this mode. What I can't tell you is specifically what else is done in terms of remapping. There is a very extensive press release on the V10 that you can access on the M5board.com that describes the engine in more detail.

interesting
in that case i can really see no difference in economy from moderately driving in P400 and P500

The difference is basically at any given position of the gas pedal, you're using about 80% of the gas in p400 that you're using in p500. If you acellerate the same in either mode, meaning you're pushing the pedal farther in p400 than you would in p500, the gas mileage will be the same.
so itsjust a pedal "throttle limit" right, w/o any changes in timing ect?

I can't say for sure. I would imagine it is, since that would be the simplest.

I've attached a photo of the front of my car & you can see clearly the device fitted in the lower grille, directly under the P on my license plate. It cost ?450 fitted & that included wiring it up to my Origin B2 GPS device. I have it set to constantly jam laser & it's firmware covers all known police devices/frequencies throughout Europe.
