I've been doing some experiments with my Gtech, just running 60' times with a variety of methods. So far my best time is 2.13 sec. I've used LC, non-LC, and varied the EDC settings. What I've found is that using LC gives me the best so far, and it seems to be very consistent - 2.1 seconds and change every time.

The 1600 rpm launch is definitely not optimum. You feel the engine bog down once the tires get traction, and it really doesn't get moving again until you're over 4,000 rpm. I'm sure with the Euro LC you can get sub 2 second 60' times.

I'll keep experimenting with non-LC launches like C&D did. If you floor it you can smoke the tires at a higher rpm, but since you don't control the clutch it is really difficult to maintain optimum revs. My best with this method so far is a little over 2.2 seconds. We'll see if I can get a technique figured out to get below 2 seconds.

Anyone else playing around with this??

Yes I am, but unfortunately, not in a beast So any comparisons will not be appropriate.

But to summarize my findings to date:

My best 0-60 ft times (about 8-10 so far in the 2.101 - 2.106 range) do not equate to my best 1/4 mile ET or trap speeds. I am getting the best 0-60 ft times with no wheel spin with low launch (1200-1400) RPM in STEP. When I up the RPM and induce wheel spin my 0-60 ft get slower but I lower my ETs and increase trap speed. All my best are with DSC off.

I just decided to change pitch to 1.8 from 2.0 (default) to try some retests this weekend (oops I have to reunions to go to - may be following weekend). I use the 12 inch rollout.

I know this is not direct comparison to your beast, but may be indicitive of some expectation for the more informative 0-60 mph and 1/4 times. BTW my ETs are in the 13.2 to 13.8 range, speeds 102 - 110. Those best speed/ET combos as I said are when I have the slower 0-60 ft times assuming all other factors are good.

I have been experimenting. My 60' times are with controls off and trying for almost no wheel spin--which is not hard to accomplish under 20.01.00. :'(

My 60' times for my best 5 uncorrected passes are:

2.064 2.068 2.076 2.092 2.081 Avg = 2.076.

I am at 1600 feet so at least altitude correction is essential to understanding:

With altitude correction to 500' alone, they become:

2.040 2.026 2.041 2.035 2.032 Avg = 2.035.

With weather and altitude correction to 500', they are:

2.043 2.043 2.040 2.043 2.015 Avg = 2.037.

Found a nice spot where I can do some 1/4 mile runs with the Gtech. Best run out of 4 was 12.57@117.8 with a 2.13 60 ft time. 0-60 mph time was 4.45 sec. I didn't quite hit the shift points at the right times, so I'm sure there is room for improvement.

Still haven't been able to better the 2.1 second 60 ft. time of the US launch control. The car definitely bogs tremendously when it hooks up from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. Without using the LC, because you can't modulate the clutch, you have the choice of maintaining traction, but at the too-low rpm level, or letting the tires spin a bit to keep the engine at 4,000 rpm by modulating the throttle, but then you're getting sub-optimal traction.

The big advantage of the European LC is the modulation of the clutch to allow the engine to rev to 4,000, but the tires are maintaining traction while the clutch slips. I don't know if there's any way to get a sub 2.0 second time with a US car. If there is it sure will be difficult to repeat.

Great best run. What is your altitude? And, do you know your weather conditions? Either way, I could determine "corrected" values for you. And, yes, bummer that the US got shafted on LC.

In Cincinnati, we're close to sea level - not more than a hundred feet at my location for sure. Weather was clear, 70 degrees, no wind. Plus I'm running 20" Michelin PS2's with pretty high air pressure (42 lbs). I may switch to the Conti's on the OEM wheels for the strip.

Thanks. In the future, you might want to get some data from the closest airport. Noaa gives hourly weather updates for most airports. Here is a sample for Sky Harbor--Phoenix. If you ever want me to post anything for you on the first post of this thread, then please let me know. It would be great to have some M5 results for you on the thread. If you want adjusted values, then I will need your altitude (hopefully somewhat closer to the "truth" than what you mentioned above) and your barometric pressure (mercury measured), your dew point (F), and your temperature (F) at about the time you did the test. Check our cobradav's latest results, along with the rest of ours, on first post of the second thread I linked above.
