If you don't need the rear seat, go for the M6.

Hi Nick,
Long time no speak!
Sold my 535d due to credit crunch, had a client go bump on me so had let the beast go. Believe when I say there were tears as I saw it go. Did sell at the right time though. Got 23k for it from a dealer mate who still has it and can't sell it.
On autotrader they're going for as little as 15k
I suppose though if you're buying and selling in the same market the m5/6 is the way to go. If I were you I'd go for the M5 as I heard from a dealer that the 6 series suffers from big deprieciation. I now drive our discovery 3 which is extremely challenging round the country lanes!!
All the best
Mark

Firstly, I would go with the petrol M5/6 rather than the diesel. BMW petrol engines are just more reliable than diesel.
Secondly, I would go for the M5, purely because it won't depreciate it's value as much as the M6.

Hi Merv
Sorry to hear about your situation , and having to lose the 535d ....bummer....
I was originally offered 15k for mine but i put the phone down ......the dealer then asked me to come in so that he could make a proper valuation .
After seeing the car and reading the key he would go no higher than 17k telling me that a general service was due , also brake fluid , and pads , and maybe disks and
an oil service and an mot in the next few months and a few thousand miles ??
Well i had already seen an M6 for sale at 37k and asked him to bring it the 150 miles to me so that i could have a look and test drive.
I asked him about this car one of the afternoons and he said he would put the wheels in motion the next day.......the next day came and i had a look on BMW's web
site to see if there was anything else around and noticed that the one i had been looking at had gone down by 2K over night , so now down to 35k from 86k .
So after test driving it and looking it over ........... ohhhh that engine...... ....i can pick it up in a few days if i want.
I think i prefer the exclusivity of the M6 over the M5 , but the the M5 is more practical .
The head says M5 ....... the heart says M6..........the wife says " whats wrong with the one you've got "
...so ...decisions decisions ??

I can't add much other than even though I prefer the 5 to the 6, the M6 IS the ultimate BMW. Good luck with your decision.

No much differenece in looks to justify the M5 from what you have got. Therefore M6 in your situation. Look at the original cost of M6 vs M5.
M6 something completely different you know it makes sense!
Go forth and purchase

Life's short -- go for the best ultimate BMW you think you want!
I'm going to do some drastic car changes next year (not sure which) but it's going to be something in the range of 2-250,000 dollars -- all for the sake of getting the supercar of my dreams cuz life's short so live your dream!

You already have a 5er with the M5 look. Trade because of the engine and other M goodies is not worthy for me. The M6 makes more sense. New car, new look...
