Thanks for all the replies.
I feel like a snob but here's the deal. I have an Escalade ESV (extended Escalade) that my wife drives around. This is what we use for road trips and most of the traveling together as a family.
The issue I have is that I'll be taking 3 kids to elementary school in the morning on my way to work so I need a way to tote around 3 kids. The oldest is 7 so I assumed she can't travel in the front seat. Is that true? If she can, I'm good to go.
I test drove and Audi A8L yesterday. It was ok - but everything feels like a slow boat after being in the CLS55 or 550i. Just wasn't very inspiring to drive.
Any other suggestions for "big" cars that drive like small ones? What about the S8? Don't love the looks - but that would be more spacious I assume?

Your 7 yo should be fine for what is likely a short ride, mine were riding in the front since before that.

What does the law say about children in front seats? In the UK, they can go in the front seat at any age (as long as the airbags are configured properly, and they are in an appropriate baby/booster seat until no longer needed).
Oh and don't worry, we're ALL posh here. You are in good company

Front seat should be okay -- just move the seat as far back as you can to keep as much distance between the child and the airbag. Depending on the child's weight, the airbag may not even be activated -- you can tell by looking at the passenger airbag warning light -- if it's off, then there isn't a risk of an airbag-related injury (but obviously there's a risk of injury from an accident since the back seat is usually the safest place to be...)

Howdy - former 550i owner. Current MB CLS55AMG owner.
Thinking about getting an M5.
Question... I need to put 2 child booster seats in the back and also put a 6 year-old in the center back seat. Will that work? Or is it too tight?

My Ride: 2006 550i SMG
I have 2 britax in the back and it is a tight fit for my 4 year old to sit between on short rides around the block but check out Recaro and Sunshine seats...they are narrower than most and made for this exact purpose...
My wife has the Recaro's in her Suburban and are very nice.

The bucket seats make it much harder to put boosters and child seats. They tend to slide inward as the outer boasters are larger. Three seats in the back is doable, but buckling the seat belts can be a pain. We need the good old bench seats that are flat, like in an old Buick.

i do it all the time in my 545i. i have a britax roundabout in the rear facing direction behind the passenger for our 9 month old, & my 4 year old son sits in a britax marathon behind the driver. with this setup my 9 year old daughter fits nicely in the middle. i wouldn't drive a couple of hours like this, but any trip around san diego is not a problem at all. hope this helps.
