The new M3 has indeed a low end torque compared to the 550i and even the peak torque it's not impressive compared to it's bigger brother but that engine has way more advantages. It's very light compared to other V8s, it revs higher so the delivery will be different and the torque is still strong espite the high reviing concept.

Well...not 100% true. BMW for instance has been able to compete with mercedes and audi with their FI but using NA engines that paradox-ally didn't use bigger displacements. By using the high reving concept and recently with the well coped 7spd gearbox they pulled it off.

Ok i am considering using my bonus to buy an m5 ... but after extensive research on the inet i have come up with some ruffage about a totaly new 2010 m5 with even more power and bigger motor .... anyone who can concur on this with me ? shoul di wait ??
The problem with SMG is it can be 'jerky' at low speeds. That definitely takes a significant amount of driver input to smooth things out, but it's not that difficult. It's just not as smooth as say an E63, but I test drove an E63 and a CLS 63 this week, and wouldn't trade the M5 for them for anything.

What's the rough estimated cost for the Dinan stroker engine? RDSport has a stroker engine also for the M5 and it's rated at 638hp.
I'm sure they will up the ante on the next M5 considering that the upcoming RS6 is rumored to have a 580 twin turbo engine. Imagine what a simple software upgrade can do to that car.
