It will be a long wait.

The next generation 5 series (code name F10) is likely to debut in 2010 as a 2011 model year. The next M5 would typically follow a year or two later, so it may not be until 2011 or 2012 when we see the new M5 Stateside.

I think the current M5 hit Europe 1 year after the standard E60 came out, and then came to the U.S. the year after that.

How about a new M3 in the mean time?

na that new m3 is low on torque !! the 550 has more torque than that car ! and it weighs only 200 lbs less

low on torque, but more mod-friendly. 3 series tend to have more engine mods avaiable then the 5.

There will not be a lot of power left on the table by BMW in regards to the new M3. I dont think that there will be very substantial gains from any software, CAI, Exhaust mods!

Wait for the FY kits for the new M3. For the current M5, there are some FY kits that put it with almost 700hp.

but i wouldnt be surprise if they develop a software like Xede (335i) for the m3 tho. a software like that for the m3 would give the m5 a run for its money. also currently, there is debate on e90post forums of the 335 + Xede being able to keep up with next m3.

btw, the current 335+ Xede beats the e39 m5 and e46 m3.

That is because turbo charged cars (335) are easily tuneable with software. Just an increase in boost preassure is good for monster hp/tq gains.

The New M3 will not see these benefits from any software because there is no boost to increase(non turbo) These are two totally different engines, one can benefit from more boost where the other will need a lot more. But what do you do to a small displacement V8 that redlines at 8400 RPMs????
