I wouldn't pay that much, 2008 M5's are commonly going for $40-45k. Also, CPO on an M5 is basically useless, it doesn't cover the most common and more expensive issues (SMG Clutch for one - ~$5k to repair at the dealer). I'd rather get a non-CPO M5 and get a good 3rd party warranty instead.

The clutch would be different for a manual 6-speed I assume?

+1

to put it in perspective last fall i bought my non-CPO 2006 M5 for damn close to 30K out the door from a BMW dealership in Chicago....it only had like 40k miles on the clock.

at the time i was contemplating a 2008 CPO M5 with the same mileage for a little under 50k....def not worth the price difference lol. i would look around, the price above is about 10k over market...

You are correct Chris, clutches (by definition) are wear items, and therefore not covered under the CPO warranty. In fact I don't think the Maintenance warranty covers clutches either - especially on the M5

for $55k i would buy a used E60 M5 for fun....and a 335i coupe or sedan for a daily driver.....that price is crazy for the current market.

I'm going to check it out this weekend. Price seemed high and I assume they have a lot room to move on - will see on Saturday. My situation on my 2010 is 26 payments left at $995/month. I'm a hair over 50k miles. I'd like to think that I can get ~$35k trade-in value, and the difference in my payoff and trade-in (~$9k) would go to the M5. I am out of warranty and I wanted to do KW v3's on mine, as well as aftermarket warranty. If I upgrade I am getting the CPO warranty and I would not need the coilovers, thus it would be close to a wash in terms of my spend. Does this make sense to anyone else besides me?

well i would start with your trade in offer. also consider looking at selling it on the regular market. $35k seems high for a 2010 with 50k miles....only because the price of E60s has fallen really quickly (thus the better pricing i experienced last fall). Carmax also offers great deals on trade-in amounts....usually better than any other dealership.

i would drive the M5 and if you really want to make that move, open your search to a couple more states. and before you buy ANYTHING get a third party inspection...and ALL the service records on that beast.

good luck!

postscript: $995/mo? ouch, i thought my payments were bad but thats baller status

What are you seeing on your mileage? In both p400 and 500 mode.
