19 inch wheels in bumpy roads
My 530i came with 19 inch wheels. Driving in residential Lima, PERU has already broken FOUR tires. It is unbelievable how BMW would sell such a nice car with risky low profile tires for this city.
Please opine on options: a) since max pressure on tires is 51 psi, inflate tires at 45 psi, to absorb speed bumps impacts, at the expense of shocks... b)replace wheels by 17" with much higher profile, or 18" which might not do the job avoiding tear. Thank you very much. BILL |
MAX Tire inflation pressure on the sidewall is NOT the correct inflation for your tires. Check your driver-side door jam and use that pressure. I agree that very low-profile tires and bad roads do not play well together. If the roads in your local area are than poor I would recommend 17" wheels and the proper size tires (likely a 50 profile instead of 40 or 45). Inflate them according to BMW's recommended specs - NOT THE SIDEWALL MAX PSI!!

Dear luigi524td.
Thank you for your comment. I shall buy 17" wheels with a 50 profile. The metal plate in the driver's door frame shows among others: 225/50 R 17 94 W Max.passengers 4, no luggage. Tire pressure front 2.3 bar, rear 2.8. Product(225 x 50% = 112.5 HIGHEST) 245/45 R 17 95 W 5 pax and luggage, 2.9 bar, 3.4 bar rear. Product(245 x 45% = 110.25) WHICH option, seams to be better to solve my problem.?? Best regards, Bill |
