wipers when ignition turned off

Are the windshield wipers supposed to return to their "park" position when the ignition is turned off before manually turning the wiper switch to "off"?
Mine stop mid-windshield. ('04 530i)

Nope - the wipers will stop where they are when you switch off the ignition. I try to "park" [put them in off position] the wipers before turning ignition off.
