Hi all,

New here, from the e39 community, and having a new sled delivered hopefully this Friday.

I'm looking for recommendations on winter rims and tires.

Preferrably black steelies.

Where's the most competitve place?

The new ride:

2008 535i 6sp
Black Sapph/Black Leather/Anthracite Headliner
SP/PP/CW
Rear Shade
Fold down/Heated Rear Seats
PDC
L7/HD/iPod/Sat/NAV
M-Tech Aero installed at port

Thanks for the input!

Welcome to the forums...

There are a ton of threads here about winter set ups but depending on your location (you should add your location to your profile), you might want to check out http://www.tirerack.com and see what they offer.

Personally, I wouldn't go with "black steelies" -- you should be able to get a decent wheel/tire package that's affordable without resorting to steelies.

I didn't even know that steel wheels were an option for these cars. I don't think they are for the 545.

Anyway, You should look at the classifieds here and post a WTB ad, and check Ebay and other places. I bought a set off Ebay for $450 that included OEM Style 138 wheels w/Continental snow tires that had been used one season. With so many people leasing cars, you can typically find someone who is turning in their lease and selling their snow set up.

Also, with so many people buying aftermarket rims, you could probably even find some 124s or other 17 or 18 inch OEM wheel that you could just buy a tire package for.

good luck. sounds like a sweet car.

Thanks for the input. I don't really see it as "resorting" to steelies. I just like the convenience of not having to worry about taking care of the alloys in the winter with the salt/sand etc.

Take the steel rims off and spray a little paint in the spring, and you're good to go.

I understand but in reality, a relatively inexpensive set of alloys don't need much maintenance and look way, way better...

Welcome to the Forum ADD,

I did go for the best I knew for a winter E60:

244 rims with Nokian RSi RF tyres 225/50-17"

Did drive with them a month last winter.
Not hard at all and extremely quiet.

Do not spoil your car's looks for winter with steel rims.
High quality aluminum rims only need a proper cleaning/waxing
in the spring and they are as new for many years.

+1

I went with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 studs last winter. 225/50 R17.
With BBS alloys they make a nice set for winter.
