Well I finally decided to put together a rim/winter tire package for my 550i. I was stranded for the past few winters with my M3 and heard that if I go with winter tires, my 550i will be fine. I chose style 135 rims with Dunlop M3 tires. I also stuck with 18" rims because I cannot stand the way the car looks on 17s. I had to choose between these, Blizzaks, Pirellis or Contis and went with the Dunlops because they looked nicer. Not a great reason but oh well. Did I do okay?? Does anyone else have a similar set up or even another that they can recommend?? And lastly, how good is the car in snow with these and am I giving up a lot of performance over my Bridgestone RFTs??

IMHO you did good.

You will not notice an enormous difference in performance.

But once the temp is below 7c or there is snow you will reap the benefits.

The normal tires on my 530Xi are Bridgestone RFT 18's and I recently switched to Dunlop M3 DSST (called ROF started this year) 17's for the winter. They are just marginally softer than the Bridgestones. On snow and ice they performed very well so far.
