Hi,

Unfortunately, it's time for winter tyres again. ContiWinterViking with studs & OEM 116 Double spoke rims. And some Swissvaxing (Cleaner Fluid, Shiled PTFE wax, Autobahn PTFE wheel wax etc.) all over the car

Regards,

Jukka

Have you survived through all the snow you've got last few days ?
The car is looking good...

Hi all,

Thanks for comments. It was really perfect timing to put winter tires on, because we have got around 35 cm snow since Sunday.

Anzafin, yes we have survived, no problems at all. I think that 50%-50% weight balance together with advanced DSC/DTC make 5 series quite a good car for winter. Actually I like RWD much more than FWD because you can always control the steering easily even if accelerating at the same time

Regards,

Jukka

I think I will never (never say never ) have another FWD car. The 5 handles quite good in snow, but some places can surprise. I now have give a thought for a AWD car too, but my budget can not afford one right now. Especially if I went for some of my favourites, like 330xd coupe !

Hello Anzafin,

Yes, if the roads were like now, AWD would be a safe and nice option, but to be honest, all the other days it makes the car handle worse than RWD

It also causes loss of performace and higher fuel consumption. I know that you have longer winters in Kajaani, but we have more of wet snow days here and I feel that snow or ice is not a problem if temperature is below minus 4-5 degrees Celsius.

I was very carefully considering a 335i Coup? last spring, but decided to take one more 5 series. Now I am looking for a Z4 3,0siA Coup? to replace our 118iA. Z4 with 10-15kkms is at 28-30 k? price in Germany now and I think it will be cheaper after the launch of new Z4 next year.

I think it would be around 40k? after taxes here...And we newer use the rear seat of the 118...

You're right about the AWD pros and cons. Actually the only thing dragging me towards AWD is start offs from lights at winter time .
