My Ride: 2005 Black Sapphire Metallic 545i
Default

were getting ready up north for the cold to come and right now the tires currently on the car aren't going to be experiencing the snow. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what bmw rim would fit on my 545i with the sport package. The main thing that I'm worried about is fit, I want them to fit like they should so that I don't affect any other aspects of the cars suspensions, brakes, etc. in the future.

Go for original BMW 17" wheels with 225/50 tires.

Wide tires and large wheels are the worst you can buy for the winter.

I second that. Did a lot of research here and other places. I have a 530i with sport, and opted to downsize to 17" rims. I live in Minnesota, and will have these on for 5 months of the year, minimum, so I splurged for the factory rims (style 138) that would have come with a non-sport version. None of the aftermarket stuff did anything for me. I just got them last week and will be flipping a coin between the Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3's and the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2.

My Ride: #1: 2004 545i; 6-speed manual; Sport Package; Mystic Blue with a gray leather interior and Anthracite wood; CWP; Logic 7. #2: 2010 535xi Touring; Automatic.

I have cheap but sturdy (just in case of potholes, curbs) wheels (Borbet), 17" and 225/50s, Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3's. My car did fine in the snow in Chicago. We had a pretty snowy winter. My only real problem was scraping the belly of my low 545 sport on the deep snow; but the traction was OK. Made me work for it a little bit in the alley behind my house, but it was fun.

Ashland Tire is right near me, 3737 N. Ashland. They store the summer tires/wheels in winter, and vice versa, for free. I guess they just count on good tips for the twice yearly swap, plus customer loyalty for the next set.
