I am a new owner of a 535xi here in Michigan. After taking delivery of the vehicle, I regret not getting the sunshades although they are really not useful for me as noone is ever in the backseat of my car. However, does anyone know of a manual or mechanical retrofit, especially for the rear? If so, what is the cost?
And for the real question, I want to tint all the windows except the front. Issues I have noticed in other BMWs is the rear window where the dot matrix is outlining it. There appears to be a grey outline where the tint does not appear to be sticking. Is there a way to have the tint appear to cover the entire window as if it was from the factory inside the glass? Also, anyone have a good tint shop in Michigan? I am located in the metro Detroit area. I appreciate the time. |
Dot matrix problem is easily remedied with the right tint shop. Experienced tint shops have no problems tinting around the dot matrix.

Hey Vegastrashed, where did you go to get your tint? I know your from SD right? I just had mine done at 'Terrific Tint' about 10 days ago and noticed bubbling around the dot matrix and the rear defroster lining. I'm going to request a refund this week and go somewhere else.

I got mine in east coast. I have friends in OC that know of some good shops. I'll ping them tomorrow where they got it done unless that is too far for you to drive. I don't know of any good tint shops in San Diego.

Check this thread out. It has quite a few shops that are recommended by a lot of guys here.

Plan right now is to use Sun Shade in Troy (Kevin) -- very good reputation as well. Several people I work with have recommended them. However, they don't do ceramic so it would have to be dyed film (I don't want to go metallic). They had an opening for tomorrow when I talked to them Tuesday, but I couldn't make it work out with my schedule. Last place that has been recommended is Detail Express on Orchard Lake in Keego Harbor. Can't remember his name right now, but he does a lot of higher end work. I would like ceramic, but haven't found any shops (besides Armor) to do it. No Huper Optic dealers anywhere close and the nearest Formula One dealer is in Toledo. My other concern is going too dark and getting tickets (if you don't know it, any tint on the front side windows in illegal in MI). I'm only planning to go with only 50% on the sides and with the beige interior it will look kind of light. However, my friend got stopped 3 times in 3 days during a crack down last summer with what he said was 35% -- but it looked darker to me with his black interior. Let me know what you decide to do and I will do the same. I am probably looking at week after next now -- too much going on next week with work and a track day at Waterford Hills with the BMW Club on Friday! Jeff |

And why don't you write it in the "from" field ? Moderators, I think indicate the location should be obligatory! |

Jeff [/quote] I'm in the same mode here in Plymouth. Bad experience with my E46, looking for the best film/install, regardless of cost. Please pass along your experiences, recommendations....Thanks |
