Does anyone know if the M5 front brakes will fit under Style 124s? I want to upgrade but learned to check this first the hard way last time on my E39.

Doubtful. Most people here who have retro-fitted M5 brakes on their e60s also have the OEM 166 wheels. Two members who have M5 brakes on their e60s are rizbel and AlexFW.

Someone says no. Try! If they don't fit you will have to order 166, 167 or 172 19" wheels .
The only thing I know is the spare tire doesn't fit anymore and I have to get some 12mm spacers .

From RealOEM.com link it listed M Style 184 wheel as M5 winter wheel option, same size as Style 124 (8"x18") BUT different offset so not sure if 6mm difference is to clear the brake caliper or not plus the spoke design may play in role too.

You would need a M3 front wheel which is a 35mm offset on a 18x8 then add a 12mm spacer then they might fit, I remember using a stop tech template on my old rims and they did fit.
Too much math just get 19's or 20's with correct offsets.
