Do you think it improves your performance?

have you had any problems such as a fouled MAF?

This problem was bandied around on the M5Board for a long time. Not many people with the E39 M5 used them and most that did, complained of fouled MAF's. It may been caused by over-oiling, but who knows.

So if anyone here has any long term experience (or short term) they would like to share, please do.

i've had it for 6 months, no problems. it comes pre-oiled, so dont add oil.
i installed it along with deleting the charcoal filter, so dont know how the k&n affects performance on its own, but with both mods, the car pulled harder and had a louder roar.

+1. im not sure about loudness because i had exhaust already when i did this mod along with the charcoal filter removal, but i could hear more air literally breathing in the engine. it did pick up a little bit more from a dig too in my opinion.

$45 shipped is probably a good price and I got mine from Autoanything.com for that last Fall, but their price is $51 right now. Here is one on ebay for about $46. ebay link

My car developed a stalling problem for the first 2 months with the new filter, but the problem went away. I have heard about others reporting the same problem. Perhaps the computer must adjust.

i've heard the same thing, so i got a little discouraged from removing the charcoal filter and purchasing the k&n air filter. however, if i only install the filter without removing the charocal, will i still stall? and i have an auto trany...im not sure about the others who experienced this problem

It is only a temporary problem.
I tried removing the charcoal filter and then putting it back. No difference.

Imagine running 10 miles with cotton in your nose, and then taking the cotton away. It will not feel the same. When you remove the filter, the car must adjust.

It has been 7 months since I put in the filter. The stalling went away in month 2, and my car has been great ever since.

No problems here. Although, my butt dyno doesn't feel any difference.
