Your steering feel will begin to get a bit loose and shudder a bit. Also, you will have some unwanted lateral wheels movement in severe cases. It's easy to check the condition of the front control arm bushings. Lift your car, take off front wheels and try to wiggle the arm in different directions. If the bushing inside the arm is cracked or worn out, you will be able to see it pretty easily. There are two parts to the control arm. The bushing and the ball joint. You can replace just the bushings but the labor cost will kill ya. And if the ball joints that attach to the hub are cut, cracked, you will need to replace the whole arm for sure. So, just to be done with it, I replaced the whole arm from the get go.

Hey Jason, the ride is coming along pretty well...just threw some coil overs on it, getting the m-tech put on this week, and also changing the control arms by the next week... can't wait til its finished, I'll definitely post some pictures after its finished.

good thing about the control arms is that all models use these... from the 528i to the m5... part doesnt change

http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/181

just to make sure this is what u r wanting...

i am talking about #11 on this realoem.com page, which go for $244 each

There are two lower control arms on the front axle. One in the front which is the one we are talking about here. This is the one with the replaceable bushing insert. There is another control arm in the front towards the rear. Now this one won't have a serviceable bushing and you will just have to replace it if the inset bushing is busted or the ball joint is bad.

What is the difference between the $250 control arms and pair from FCP Groton, LLC for $140?

If you are replacing front front control arm, I recommend going w/ Meyle Heavy Duty one
http://www.meyleusa.com/improved_bmw.htm
MEYLE 316 050 0019/HD
MEYLE 316 050 0020/HD
This comes w/ HD bushing and HD ball joint as an "upgrade".

If you are replacing front rear control arm, I'd go Febi Bilstein or Lemfoerder as they aren't that much different than FCP's control arm (Pelicanparts.com has both of them)
