My Ride: carbon black/black dakota, M package with M aero kit, M suspension and 18" 135 M style wheels -
steptronic, adaptive bi-xenon, active steering, moonroof, comfort seats, comfort access, nav pro, logic7, CD, HUD, PDC and some ...
Very interesting thread, I think!
After reading all that stuff on RFTs and after my first 2000 km on them, I?m planning to use my 135 style 18" wheels for winter tires, and to put complete, non-RFT new summer wheels on next spring (maybe earlier ). Probably 19", then, definitely no 20"s.
Thinking about new rims, weight is an important matter, because a larger tire dimension will add weight (and drag) anyway. So physics tell us, if you want to better the performance or handling of the car in normal driving conditions, you have to look for a low overall weight of the wheel, thus reducing unsprung masses, even more, if you have a stiffer suspension and low-shoulder tires, or else you?ll end up with a choppy ride.
On the other hand, same physics tell us, that the more weight is balanced at the hub of the wheel, the better, because rotating masses multiply their weight with distance from the center and speed. This can be achieved by rim design.
Leaving out exotic materials like magnesium or carbon, and of course taking into account personal taste, that left me with the BBS CK-II as the rim of choice. It?s a two-piece, cast-alloy wheel with a polished, but not glossy=pimpy look. It?s low weight, due to CAD-optimized design and a hollow inner rim. And it has a stainless-steel protector on the outer rim to avoid curbside damages to the wheel itself. The same protector allows for invisible mounting of the balancing weights.
Unfortunately, to come back to Your question, I couldn?t find solid specs on the weight of different rim types in th right size, either. If anyone can provide true weight measurements, this would be very helpful.

The stock wheels and tires are unbelievaly heavy. They are 62 and 64 lbs per corner, front and rear. With 19" BBS RS-GT's I saved 14 lbs per corner! My old car:
