ok i've been on this board for a while now, but I still don't know what a Staggered or unstaggered set of tyres are? will anyone care to explain to me what is it. I plan on ordering my car within the next two months @ the very latest. The excitement keeps me up on this board till 1am in the morning when I have to wake at 7am for work, lol. I can't imagine when I actually order my car or when I'm told it's at the dealer!! I'm going to need some sleep medications sooner than later I presume.
Since you are getting the 550 soon, make sure you order it with the Sport Package then you will have staggered tires. All staggered means is that the rear tires are wider than the front. I believe the 550 with Sport Package will have 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 tires. The 245 and 275 are in millimeters and designate the width. Staggered tires give the car an aggressive and sporty appearance.

Non-staggered tires on the 550 would be 225/50/17 for all four tires. This tire setup does not do the 550 justice.

Besides for the tires, the rims are also wider in the rear. I think that's what jiio implied but thought I'd clarify.

Ohh so I do know what staggered is, just didn't know that was the name when you had wider tyres in the back, lol. No i'm actually not getting a 550i (have to change my sig) anymore I had to face reality and unfortunately reality sucks! I have to settle for a 530i as I plan on buying my own place also at the end of the year (hopefully everything goes as planned). But hey it's still the car I want, unfortunately the sports package on the 530i doesn't come staggered also. it's 245/40 all around, but I found the website bmwwheels.com so I'll most likely get the 166 rims in 19" at a later time. I love those rims anyway and was going with the setup you also mentioned above.

Good man. OEM 166!

Your tire dimensions will be 245/35/19 and 275/30/19. But, if you really want a killer look go with 285/30/19 in the rears. Don't worry about rubbing, a lot here have 285s and are satisfied. I wish I did originally.
