I hope this isn't a silly question. But is there any performance difference with wheels with lips vs those with spokes to the edge? In my ever going quest for new wheels I'm now considering a nice wheel with a lip. Just want to know if there is any issues with lipped wheels. The only thing I've ever heard is, my friend had some nice lipped wheels but complained about loosing air all the time when he hit bumps. I'm thinking it was more from his low-profile tires... Are lipped wheels more for show over performance?

Hi
No absolutely not. A well designed wheel is not going to lose air every time you hit a bump. In general, lipped wheels are forged (think samurai sword strength) which are much stronger than a traditional cast wheel.
You're in luck, I'm having a DPE Black Friday wheel deal at the moment.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

+1 for Michael!
No difference in performance in general with lipped vs. non-lipped wheels. Forged wheels are generally lighter and stronger and better for performance purposes. So it comes down to the exact wheel itself, how it was produced, and what it was produced for (e.g. show or go).
