My Ride: 2006 525I
Post

Hey all, just have a quick question. I went out and bought a set of wheels today for my BMW 525I 2006. I got the right lug pattern and correct offset, 20X10 in the rear (275/30/20) and 20X8.5 in the front (245/35/20). They balanced the wheels with new tires and all the good stuff and as soon as i drove off i felt a very bad shake in the steering wheel. So i went back to the wheel shop and they took the wheels off, rebalanced them and placed WHEELS RINGS (is what they told me the were called, metal looking rings) on all my 4 wheel hubs, and then put the wheels back on, and the shake went away. Is it normal to use wheel rings even if u go with the right offset and lug pattern as i've done my homework on the wheels, or is the balance of the wheels probably not well done? Any input is greatly apprecaited, thnx.

It's called hub ring. Normal use for the wheel is three party for just fit for E60 only.

Yes they are also known as hub rings. You don't have to worry. On some wheels the center bore is bigger than the hub on the 5er so you need these rings.

The wheel shop should have known this the first time around. Glad you got the problem solved.

+1 Anything hub-centric shouldn't have any play in it when they bolt it on. Easy fix, though.
