Forget 166 M5 reps...they look like crap. Go with the 285 rear if you can on the 10" rear, or just get the 9.5" rear like everyone else and don't worry about the fit...could get a 275, pay less and have no issues.
The Falkens run narrow compared to other tires....their 285 is more like a 275.
Don't get that ET38 rear offset like you said if you plan to run 285's, or you are rubbing most likely. Like I said before, it's just math, and I've done it. That's 28mm lower than OEM recommends with 9.5" ET55 on a 275. C and I ran ET45, and he used a 10 or 12mm spacer...putting him at ET33-35 with a 275 tire. Your ET38 and 5mm extra of tire in each direction & extra 1/2" of wheel will rub. Even with a 275, you'll be cutting it close.
I feel like I am talking to myself here.

They do make an ET33 if I get the 9.5" rim. I don't want to have to worry about buying spacers later to push the wheels out. Thats too bad about fitting the 10" wide rim, the pic of the concave of the 10 compared to the 9.5 was much nicer. Did you think that C's Beemer looked alot better with the spacers compared to yours or is the difference hard to notice just looking at them?
I just ran the numbers through the calculator and a 10" rim et 38 only sticks out 1mm more then a 9.5" et33. Please note that my car is not lowered (flame away) for this year atleast. I've rolled fenders on past cars but would hate to do that to an e60!
Next 5 i buy wont be an XI! Too much of a pita to mod Figure I will drive this for 4 years then try to find a good deal on a used 535i, i'm too poor to buy new

Now you know why I ditched the xi....the rim choices sucked. Plus I had other reasons.
Yeah....1mm more if you use 275's, not 285's (and it might not look right), however you'd have to PM C's Bimmer (Calton) to see exactly what he used in the rear. If he used a 12mm in the rear with no problems, then def get the 275 rear tire and ET33 9.5" rim.
If you want to use the 285 tire, you have no choice but to get the ET45. I'd skip the 10" rim, even though it does look sweet! BTW, rear spacers are no big deal if you have to get them. I'd rather have some room-to-move back there, just in case.

No problems with rubbing?
none, and I am lowered, but I couldnt run a spacer. If your not lowered ( C's he could run a 10mm spacer?) it will snug in there. I ran the 285 for the same reason I wanted some rim protection, Also Trinity got me a good price on the Kuhmo's SPT
