How much do the stock 138's with stock tires weigh?

Will it effect the bmw if you get wheels that way a lot more than the stock ones?

Yes, increasing rolling mass will effect a lot such as increase wear on brake, decrease car agility (less nimble) which lead to decrease on performance to name a few...

Wheel = 20.943 lbs
Center Cap w/ roundel = .035 lbs
Valve (for TPM equipped) = .0396 lbs
Valve cap (for TPM equipped) = .0022046 lbs

for a grand total of 21.0198 not including brake dust and balancing wieghts.

now if you want a thorough answer, you gotta ask a thorough question... what kind of tires do you have?

a shot in the dark is as follows:

Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST
Size: 225/50ZR17
Blackwall
BMW RunFlat
ZR Speed Rated

with the tires listed at 28 lbs.

you are looking at roughly 49 lbs each not taking into account balancing weights and tread wear. i could have tried to figure out the exact tire weight but i got tired of doing research and math.

god you are amazing!! the tires i have are the conti run flats. 225/50?/17

So basically the whole stock setup is about 50 pounds a wheel (rim, tire, center cap, valve stem)?

The 20's i have coming are weighing about 10 pounds more per wheel. I want to know if this 10lb difference will effect my car a lot? I dont drive aggressive and am not really worried about losing a little agility. Im just curious about the breaks. Will the 10lbs put that much more strain on the brakes?

without getting into centrifugal force and inertia, i will say you will suffer from a harsher ride. that is about it. 10 lbs isnt terrible unless you were autocrossing. i think the look of the car will outweigh the added pounds (no pun intended)

Don't lose too much sleep over it ... there are numerous other factors that come into play including aerodynamic drag (yes tires create drag), tire rolling resistance, and more. And IMHO it's not likely that in even spirited driving of a a 530 you'll notice the additional wheel weight. It'll be more than offset by the increased cornering capability, ride harshness, and other road dynamics.

Enjoy the look, and if weight is really a concern, only take along svelte passengers

I would guess as well you'd not notice the 10 extra lbs per corner unless you timed a 0-60 or autocross. There might be a slight difference in ride quality and throttle response but it would take back to back runs to notice this. I wouldn't worry about braking distances or wear in normal driving.

The Conti RFTs weigh a lot more than non-RFTs. Craig's example was RFTs so its probably darn close to the Contis. If you went to non-RFTs you'd loose most of the weight gained from the wheels.

I put my 19" with Bridgestone all season tire and it is way heavier than Nitto nt555...

First, because it has more treadwear, it is heavier. Also depends on rubber compound, weight changes as well... and well nitto and bridgestone has about 10-15 pound weight differnce....

Honestly, i tried like 3 differnt types of tires, i like my bridgestone better.. First it is much quiter... I felt every single bump with nt555 but not with bridgestone... also i get more grip with my bridgestone as well...

Honestly weight wont matter too much on tire... I mean its not like you are comparing with 600 pound guy in a car vs 170 pound guy..... it is only few pounds differnce.. you are not going to feel that much....

the contis on your car are 32 lbs. non RFTs for 20s are roughly 21-23 lbs, confirming richards statement and maybe easing your mind about the added weight.
