Hey all,

I just ordered the BMW M-Tech complete LCI body kit, Hamann Splitter, & Vorsteiner Spoiler from EuroRev. We all know that EuroRev is a reputable dealer, but starting January of 2009 (now), California law prohibits the use of oil-based paints. My new parts will be painted with a water-based paint. Can anyone on this board make me feel good about this process? Is the paint as durable and does it have as a minimum a factory finish? By the way, my car color is Platinum Grey Metallic (A68).

Thanks!

Get everything clear bra'd. I regret not getting mine done. Rock chips galore. I guess there's always the next paint job.

from Dupont

""When the new regulations were announced, some shop operators worried that waterborne finishes would add time and effort to the painting process. However, unlike solvent-based color coats that require painters to wait while solvent ?flashes off? or evaporates, additional coats of water-based Cromax? Pro can be applied while the first coat is still wet, saving labor time. In addition, fewer layers of water-based color coats are required to achieve a high-quality automotive finish, saving more time and reducing the amount of paint used.

Traditional automotive base coats contain 6.2 pounds of solvent per gallon of product, while DuPont? Cromax? Pro reduces its use of solvents nearly 50 percent. The new aftermarket paints will be introduced in California on March 1, 2007. Several major U.S. and European automakers already use waterborne paint systems in their assembly plants.""

I believe that BMW has been using these paints on their cars for a while. If that's true (you may want to confirm this), then I've been impressed with mine. It's held up quite well to New England winters. It gets micro-scratches pretty easily, but those are harder to see.

You will have no problems with it. Its just the basecoat that is hydro the top coat is still a 2k high solid laquer.
