I did mine. I think I did a pretty good job. For the bubbles, use a blow dryer to shrink it and it's gone. I used an X-acto knife to cut and trim. However, it's not perfect. I have the actual ones on the way.

Here's the parts list for the matte black on my 2006 525i:

51337072883 Front door - Exterior trim - Cover molding - Outer Black Left 2004 - 2009
51337072884 Front door - Exterior trim - Cover molding - Outer Black Right 2004 - 2009
51357072887 Rear door - Exterior trim - Cover molding - Outer Black Left - Sedan 2004 - 2009
51357072888 Rear door - Exterior trim - Cover molding - Outer Black Right - Sedan 2004 - 2009
51217135161 LEFT CHANNEL COVER,EXTERI
51217135162 Front door - Exterior trim - Belt molding - Black Black Right 2004 - 20091
51227135163 Rear door - Exterior trim - Belt molding - Black Black Left - Sedan 2004 - 2009
51227135164 Rear door - Exterior trim - Belt molding - Black Black Right - Sedan 2004 - 2009

I got mine from onlinebmwparts.com $249 shipped

BTW, I plan on using this DIY for the actual shadowline trim install:

OK... decided to take the trim off and give it another go ahead. Still sucked however, I managed to do one side. It came out decent but by no means near perfect at all! This stuff is tough to work with. It was kind of easier with the trim off but the bend in the read was very difficult. Alot of stretching and pulling. In the end it still has micro bubbles and tiny imperfections. I will try to heat it all up with a hairdyrer tomorrow and take some pics. I have to order another roll since I manage to waste half the roll. I will just leave it on till it anoys me enough to order the real shadowline!

Hopefully, others will read and learn from this. Based on experience, I doubt it. Good call on the real deal--you'll love it.

I tackled this mod 2 years ago for my other car. I've tried using black out trim vinyl that comes in a thin roll much like Scotch tape rolls and it is very difficult to properly apply versus when I used a full sheet of vinyl. I applied the sheet over the chrome trim as well as the windows first. Then I cut it down closer to the trim only and then worked on cleaning up the edges. Using a sheet of vinyl allows you to NOT have to pull and stretch on the curves and bends, or at least not as much. Doing the job when its warm out also helps. Heatgun or blowdryer is helpful as well.

You can also look into painting them. I used flat black spray paint and came out perfect. Took more time to cover the car then to actually paint them.

I did mine with some vinyl tape.

Up close you can see the imperfections but from a few feet away you can't tell.

It will do for me until I order the real shadowline trim
