Well.... they don't do that in most states. It certainly doesn't happen in central Florida. The only place I have ever seen laser being used was by local police on foot. Highway patrol here all use their in-car radar systems. They sit in their car waiting for you to come over a hill, or around a bend... and they have the radar on non-stop. My V1 picks them up with plenty of lead time.... even over hills.
Consider yourself lucky then...Instant-on radar and Laser are the tough ones to avoid. Still the majority (for now) of CHP have in-car radar which my V1 picks up all the time. But I tend to drive like you (read on your previous post), a little faster than the flow of traffic will allow.

I got busted with Instant-On Radar in some backwater town in NY before Syracuse on the way back from Montreal last year. I was the lone car on the road.

I frequent e60.net and bimmerfest.com and noticed that radar detectors get much more attention than laser jammers. As LIDAR poses a real threat in many areas, I would think that people should also be serious about Laser jammers. So far my research has revealed 3 choices for jammers

1. Blinder x-treme M20
2. Lidatek
3. Beltronics RX75

Would be great to hear about your experiences with these products.

Can you also comment on the prevalence of LIDAR use by LEOs, specifically in Seattle/Western WA/OR?

I know from our State Patrol/ City police that 80-85% of tickets issued in Washington are all Laser. The reason they are primarily using laser is because it's extremly accurate and for the most part are indisputable in court. We (benchmarkmotoring.com) are one of Escort's largest retail dealers in the country and don't get the chance to get much feed back from clients who have the one's you've mentioned, but what I do know is that Escort's sister company is "Cincinatti Microwave", which is the maker of one of most popular laser guns used by police across the country.."The Stalker 1000".

Escort has and holds most of the technology patents on radar/ laser detection/ diffusing (jamming) and sells these technolgies to companies such as V1, BEL, Etc.
the reason this SRX system is so reliable, is that all of its radar detector unit and Laser shifters are mounted on the outside of the vehicle for maximum protection unlike most of these interior (polorized) windshield mounted units, including the Escort/Passport 8500 which tends to always score pretty well against the other portable units, but still not as effective as the SRX. The SRX is also completely audible, which means it tells you exactly what you're being hit (X.K,Ka, Laser) by. I know i'm probably biased, but like I said earlier, we've been installing this system for 3 years and not one person has received a ticket yet..radar or laser!

Laser diffusing (jamming) is illegal in Ca, DC, VA and maybe a few more. Even if you get pulled over in CA, what would you get busted for? Not an unbeatable ticket for speeding by radar nor will he have laser gun evidence of your speed. And the best part about it is when or if he comes to your window to see if you have a system in your car, he won't see a thing, because it's completely stealth..nothing hanging from your windshield..Nothing! i'll tell ya we protect Europe's fastests cars in the US in one of the heaviest Laser used States and believe me it works.

More and more staes are using laser, because it's all the evidence they need. Every once in awhile we'll get a Laser gun from Escort to demo at shows and we'll clock cars from 2-3 blocks away, so these things do have some range and very accurate, so be careful.

In my experience best defense to instant-on radar and laser is either 1) see the cop and hit the brakes before he/she pulls the trigger, or 2) see the brake lights of cars ahead that are going around a bend or over a hill. Yes, if the officer shoots radar at someone ahead of you, your V1 will get an alarm - but the police tend to wait for fast-moving BMWs (in NY State they're trained to judge speed visually and they do it pretty well). Post-pullover, you can sometimes avoid a ticket by 1)abject apology (but try to avoid making admissions at the same time; not easy, but they make notes and if you admitted speeding and go to trial, your admission will be used against you; but don't deny it either because then you're calling the cop a liar and they hate that); 2) having some gray hair; 3) generally looking like a responsible citizen. Last but not least, NY state (but not the city or Westchester County or Long Island) has some procedural hurdles for the cops that they sometimes flub, to your advantage.
