So in my last post on which detector to get (V1 or K40), everyone said V1. so V1 it is. My problem is that I very much want a stealthy install on my V1 and AKAlius (thank you) provided a great link of this company in Florida who does this kind of install.

www.youtube.com/technicarwpb

www.technicar.com

So I called these guys and it turns out they sometimes travel to do installs and they might be coming to Arizona in a couple of weeks for one and could possibly drive out here to Northern Cali afterwords. we got to talking a bit and i decided to post and see if there was any interest in Southern Cali, Arizona, or basically anywhere in between where he is and where I am to do this.

What they do is:

Install the V1 stealthy into a laser engraved rear view mirror (oem unit stays they only bring new glass)
V1 unit is installed in the headliner (call and talk to Raymond @ Technicar on how they do this)
Also install Blinders Laser Jammer (pricing includes the blinders)
No warranty issues as they do not tap into anything electrical (per Raymond)
Installed by them at your home.

Cost they quoted me:

$2500 if you need a V1
$2100 if you all ready have a V1

If anyone else wanted to do this with me for each of us:

$2200 if you need a V1
$1800 if you have a V1

(this is about exactly the same cost as a K40 installed)

Thoughts?

I'm not a very technical person at all, so if anyone has any great technical questions they could call Raymond @ 561-615-4002 to ask the questions, and post the questions/answers here to share your findings.

If you call Raymond, make sure and say you are calling in regards to the E60.net post that Tom posted....(so he knows we are all together)

I'm really interested in doing this and am wondering who else would be too...

Kinda pricey for the install IMO. there are a few DIY threads on here that are very good for this install..

here's a good one, with links in it to follow...

That link is a DIY for a regular suction cup on the windshield install. This is for a custom stealth install with indicators laser engraved into the rear view mirror with hidden display unit (not behind any metal) and blinders laser jammer (don't know how much this is by itself $700 ish maybe?). Much like a K40, but not because it's a V1. And the unit is high in the headliner and not low in the bumpers (or wherever) the K40 gets installed

Completely stealth install.....

well then, sounds like you might have some more pics to post for us soon Tom

with all the xtra hp's you've got on your ride, this might be a cool investment...

There's a post somewhere where this guy did the stealth install of his V1 on his own mirror himself. I dont think he posts anymore, but the pictures of his install are awesome. I think he knew how to work mirrors / fabricating the material himself.

If I find it, i'll try to post it. It was back in 2004 I Think.

Man I wish I could do stuff like that on my own. Actually I wish I even had the desire to think about being able to do stuff like that on my own. I see that post and my first thought is not wow, I can do this. It's wow, how much would he charge to do that for me!

I remember he said not that much, but i dont think you can find him anymore. I tried to PM him a while back. I believe he said less than 1k.. but then i think he took his words back because it is a nightmare to do.
