My first post in the 2011
. I have a 2008 550 with BT,Nav and Aux input. I wanted to do a USB interface and the stealer ship told me the car has to be wired from the factory???
Now i find it hard to believe since I know the TCU is where the bottle neck is and I have the right TCU since all the functions such as BT and Aux work just fine.
Anyone knows if what they are telling me is the truth?

There is a USB Audio retrofit kit available - at least the kit is listed on realoem.com, and I believe the english instructions were posted here on this forum. I don't know who has done the mod, as mine was factory installed, however it doesn't look cheap as you potentially need to replace a number of modules.
If you do a search for the kit on realoem, then you can check back with your dealer on cost...

i've only ever seen the usb audio retrofit (6fl) for the e9x cars not the e6x cars.

Are you confusing the ipod retrofit (which replaces the CDC) with the USB audio (6FL) that can also play ipods.

Here's the retrofit kit for the E60. Again, not sure if the kit is available in the US/Canada, but its on realoem (Link) and I'm pretty sure someone posted instructions up in either this board or the DIY section.

Note there are different kits depending on your options for NAV, etc. so the kits may take into account different controllers installed...
