Talking

Hello everyone... I have an '04 525i with the most basic stereo system. I want to do is change out all the door speakers to more responsive high end ones and add an amp. I can't seeem to find much on this topic...

- Is there one factory amp that runs the system?
- I count 7 speakers, am i missing some?
- Does doing this void the factory warranty?
- Any other info?

Thanks

CT

Pinquhk is right on the money. Save yours for a new i-pod!

If you are in the U.S., your car did not come with the basic system. It would be the HiFi system.

I have a 2007 530i but also counted 7 speakers, 2 on the front doors, 2 on the mirrors, 2 on the back (under the windshield) and 1 in the middle. I also remember seeing 10 speakers system is standard. What should I do?

You guys are probably right... I'll leave the stereo alone and go for the M-Tech kit.

you should ... count again

You most likely have the "HiFi" system;

2 in the parcel shelf in the back
4 in the front doors (2 mid, 2 tweeters near mirrors)
2 under the front seats
2 in the rear doors

No matter what system you have, the grills for the speakers will be there. Unless you have the top end stereo for example, the grill in the front centre of the dashboard will have no speaker under it. The 2 speakers under the seats act as subs.

As you move up the different audio options (in the UK we have 4 options) you get more speakers, bigger amplifier, better quality speakers, etc.

Retroffiting is possible, see the numerous threads on this board over the years about some successful modding (use search). Some people have gone for a clean look and replaced stock equipment with upgraded amps/speakers/new wiring, some have thrown huge subs and amplifiers in the boot(trunk) and made custom enclosures in the car.

The poor stereo in my 530d was one of the reasons I bought a new 535d. Upgrading (anything) is difficult and expensive in these cars, and you probably won't get any of the money back that you spend on mods or upgrades when you come to trade/sell.

Hmmm if you've got them they should be very obvious ... it was the 2 rer door ones I was not 100% sure on. Can anybody find my post from last year which listed all the different speaker options and locations ... I can't
