Congrats ECF! The M5 looks fantastic.

What are your first impressions upgrading from your Dinan 5er to the M5? What do you like best about it? Any misgivings / do you miss anything about the 545i?

What can you tell the rest of us jealous fools about why we should not wait to make the same move?
First impressions: Since I came from a Step, the SMG is a bit twitchy/jerky. Still trying to get used to it. Even though with my Step, I always drove in manual mode and shifted it manually even in traffic. The manual shifting of the Step was a lot smoother but the SMG on the M5 is jerky at times unless you're at the right rev which could be pretty high considering it's rpm range. It could just be me and I just need to learn it...

Aside from that, OMG, the damn thing is fasssssttttt!!! HAHAHA. I'm still reading the owner's manual and learning the hundreds of different ways to program the damn car. The M button is already programmed at max for every option. I pushed it only one time so far. I slowly moved off from a traffic light and then floored it and the car almost went sideways on me. Had to swerve to the next lane because the car in front of me was "reversing" towards me pretty quick.

Anyway, it's just my opinion but I think everyone should own an M car at one point. This is my first and it makes me wish I could collect them. Then again, I still love my 545 and missing it already. I still have it and wish I could keep both but I'm supposed to go drop it off to have some of the parts removed and transferred to the M5....

Nice move, ECF! For a second there, I thought, "Now what would possess him to have two E60s?!" (based on that one pic with the Dinan car in the garage and the M5 on the street). I'd keep the R10s for sure and hit Dinan up for their new quad exhaust!! Congrats!

Now why does that remind me of that one time.......................... You're a bad influence on me, I would never usually pull something like that, especially between 2 stations...........

It'll just take some time to get used to driving the SMG, there's a learning curve and I know what you're talking about with the jerkyness. The e46 ///M3 is worse than that I think, especially when it's cold. The way the clutch in the SMG engages and grabs makes the car shift back and forth as opposed to our steps which is still basically automatic no matter how you slice it. Let me drive it tonight man!
