I?ve just bought a BMW E61 525 2008 mod. This car has the Hifi sound system. I wonder if it is possible to upgrade this to Hifi Professional/Logic7 (677) or the Individual High End (752) . I?ve check with my local BMW dealer, and there is no retro kit for this. I?ve done some research, and I understand I have to change the amplifier and some of the loudspeaker. Does anyone know if the car I Pre-wire for the Hifi Professional and can I use a Pre facelift/LCI amplifier on this car? I see that many people means that the Hifi Professional before 2007/3 is better the then the Hifi Professional after 2007/3

Its not an easy upgrade at all. In the Hi-Fi the amp is just driving the 2 subs and the rest of the speakers are driven by the HU. In the L7 you not only have some extra speakers but all the speakers are driven from the amp in the boot. Plus you will have to reprogram the car.

I've done some more research and I see that this is a quiet complicate upgrade. But I still consider doing the upgrade. It looks like the 20 pin connector to the amplifier is the same on Hifi, Hifi Professional, and Induvidual (DIRAC) but on the Hifi Pro and Dirac all the speakers are connected to this connector and there is and fiber optical from the head unit.
I assume that for an upgrade, I have to change the speaker wiring and add the fiber optical cable for the BMW MOST signal from the head unit to the amp. Anyone know if it?s possible to buy the fiber optical cable and speaker wiring as separate parts?
I think that the most complicate part on this project is getting the wiring correct. My local dealer can program the car, but I?m wondering if it would be sound in the Logic7/Dirac amp even if the car is not coded for Logic7/Dirac. This way i can test the wiring, speakers and amp before the BMW dealer is going to code the car. Has anyone tested a Logic7 amp for cars before 03/2007 on a car newer than 03/2007? I see that most used Logic7 amps on ebay are for before 03/2007. I've also heard that the sound is better in the pre 03/2007 logic7 system.

You can buy all the spares you need but you are going to need recoding of the car too to recognise the L7 install. This is going to be a costly retrofit.

You will not be able to drive the SWS-8 with the L7 or DIRAC amp its too weak to drive those speakers. Stock speakers are 2ohms but those are expensive.

Have you bought rear door panels yet? I'm planning to upgrade mine also. the Logic 7 for the LCI sucks/cannot tell the difference at all, that's why I didn't get it and planning to use all the pre-LCI stuff, hopefully it's better or just do aftermarket

I'll probably wait until BSW release their product and wait for reviews. As for aftermarket, I'll probably follow one of them from this website http://www.suchartsound.co.th/search-bmw.html (It's in Thai, just click all those 5-series)
