I sound like an idiot for asking this... but how do I ship wheels with tires on them? Do I need to box them up, or is there a special way to package these guys? What should I expect to pay for shipping on 4 wheels&tires? (I'm asking because I want to sell my 4 OEM 545i sport wheels/tires, almost never used - after I figure out the logistics&pricing I'll place an ad in the Classifieds section).

The Tire Rack ships them in a pretty simple way but it may be easier to use a big box with foam peanuts (one box per wheel).

What the Tire Rack does is put a thin, flat, foam sheet across the front and back of the tire/wheel assembly. In other words, the tread of the tire is still exposed. From there, they use a circular cardboard "disc" that is big enough to cover the foam. (The cardboard rests on the tire's sidewall.) Then they use those plastic straps to hold everything together. The straps are the kind that are pulled tight and fused together with some sort of machine.

Again, it works well for them but it might be hard for you to duplicate the process yourself...
