Tyres were a hot topic on this site once and probably still will be. I never was a fan of runflats in fact i hated them. So when i put normal tyres on i was very pleased with the results. One thing i was never pleased about was the 275 wide tyres on the rear. Very expensive and way over the top.
Anyway the winter in Scotland has been wet and in 25 years of driving, last winter has seen the worst roads that i have ever seen in my life. On one road in Scotland in 3 months i hit 4 potholes and over the winter have written off 3 wheels and 4 tyres at a cost of a few thousand pounds.
I finally got sick of it and took my 18inch wheels off and fitted 16inch wheels. No question about it the wheels dont look as good. But my advice to anybody out there that is doing big miles on poorer quality roads dont go for big wheels. The ride quality is much much better and you dont feel every ripple on the road.
And as for roadholding there aint much difference, maybe very slightly bouncier but much more comfy.
Finally, ordered a new set of shockers today koni fsd. Dont want to lower the height cause i did that with my e39 and fitted bilstein b12. Super handling but too firm. So anybody got them on there e60? There cannot be many of you because i was told today that koni in holland dont stock them for the e60 and only make them to order so have to wait until end of June to get them.
